The following list will be updated over the next few months as we read, watch, and listen to Hugo-eligible works for 2026. These are not necessarily what we plan to nominate, but rather works that at least one member of the Edmonton Hugo Book Club has enjoyed and believes to be worth consideration. We appreciate any additional suggestions in the comments.

ReplyDeleteSinners, Sinners, Sinners. The first genre film I've seen in 2025 that's lown my socks off (I missed the boat on Ne Zha 2, sadly).
It's a good movie (and it's on the list above). I'd be happy to see it on the Hugo ballot.
Delete*However* there are some choices that seem very odd. To my mind a sold four-star movie, but there's some stuff that picked at me.
Great list, adding a few of these to the tbr! also I think the Temporary Murder story might fall into the novelette category instead of short story?
ReplyDeleteThe Unworthy for Novel and But Not Too Bold for novella. Showing some love for works in translation (both Argentine authors)
ReplyDeleteDrop of Corruption, Grave Empire, Potency of Ungovernable Impulses.
ReplyDeleteHi, got a suggestion for Novel (T. Kingfisher's Hemlock & Silver) and several for Graphic Story (The Space Cat, Nnedi Okorafor & Tana Ford; Who Killed Nessie? Paul Cornell & Rachael Smith; The Avengers in The Veracity Trap!, Chip Kidd & Michael Cho). Also, it looks like the movie Bugonia will be worth checking out when it hits theaters. Looking forward to seeing more suggestions here!
ReplyDeleteGot another suggestion in Graphic Story, the manga series Cosmos by Ryuhei Tamura. There are seven volumes out in Japan, of which the first two were published in English translation this year with a third due out November 18. Some of the concepts can be traced to other comics such as Men in Black (a secret organization monitoring extraterrestrials on Earth) and Usotoki Rhetoric (a character who can detect lies from humans or e.t.'s), but the stories themselves transcend their influences, with the last two chapters of Vol. 2 ("Del and the Garden of Stars", parts 1 & 2) being a high point so far.
ReplyDeleteOoh, got another Graphic Story candidate, Ngozi Ukazu's body-switching fantasy Flip.
